Bryce’s First Walking Shoes!

So now that Bryce is an old pro (2.5 weeks!) at walking he’s been “guesting” to the Purple Room (toddler room) at day care.  That means he gets to visit for brief periods throughout the day, getting accustomed to the teachers and routine. You see, when a child turns 1 and also starts walking, they begin to transition over. If they turn 1 and aren’t yet comfortable on their feet, the transition doesn’t begin (as was the case with Chase, who walked 2 weeks after his 1st birthday). However, with Bryce walking early they’re pretty sure he’ll officially be finished transitioning and in the Purple Room by September (yikes).

Anyhoo, so he needed walking shoes in preparation for his transition. Unlike the Red Room (baby room), when they take the kiddos outside they aren’t in strollers.  So this past weekend we took a trip to Stride Rite. Of course, I felt a very strong sense of de ja vu since it was not even 2 years ago we were at this very same place with Chase!  Even funnier, we were helped by the same sales lady!  She was so friendly and sweet.  Of course, she didn’t remember us – but she smiled and beamed when I told about her the coincidence (as though she did).

Here are a few photos from our day of shoe shopping!

At the end of our shopping, Chase got a sticker for being such a good big brother and waiting so patiently! He was so excited to get his sticker, which he promptly put on his hat.  The sales person would have given Bryce a sticker, but we assured him that he’d just eat it. He was content playing with the paper backing of Chase’s.

Fun times!!!!!!!!!

  1. For some off reason my daughter never used her walking shoes for walking lol. I think they were too heavy and they would trip her up. When I put them on her she would just stand there. When I took them off she would walk all over the place lol.

That’s transitioning is going to be so exiciting for him!

  2. WONDERFUL! WONDERFUL! WONDERFUL!! Getting the proper baby shoes is the right step for fashioning and perfecting his gait while assisting the proper physical development of his itsy bitsy feetsies! :)
    Good job, mommy and daddy:)

  3. lol, why does it look like bryce is reaching down to tie his shoes in that one pic? both boys are sooo adorable! and does bryce have his mommy’s bowed stance?? that is too cute, if so!

  4. Aww, he’s a big boy now! You actually bought shoes with laces? lol Mommy doesn’t have time for laces in the AM! Velcro has been our friend with my son (2yrs). That way he could help put his own shoes on, and I’m not stooping to tie them every 5 minutes. His sister will get velcro for her first pair of walking shoes in 3-4 months.

    • Hey Jazzie!
We actually didnt see velcro walking shoes, which was a bummer (lol). I HATE laces! LOL! Our toddler only has velcro sneakers, and that’s what Bryce will get once he transitions into regular shoes.

    • Thanks girl! We’ve only shopped at Stride Rite for walking shoes. After that, Derek takes them to Modell’s for sneakers! LOL

  5. YAY for his first pair of shoes. Does he like them? I couldn’t get my almost 2yr old Sage to wear any shoes until a few months ago. She would scream to high heaven if you brought a shoe near her. Water shoes… thats what she wants to wear. Happy Wordless Wednesday!

    • Surprisingly, he does seem to like them. These white ones seem a lot softer and more flexible than the dark brown walking shoes we got for his brother. I mean, it’s the same brand and everything, but the leather just seems softer and more comfy. He is doing great in them!

  6. WOW, Bryce looks excited to be wearing his new pair of shoes. He looks AMAZING!!!! He is so stunning. Aaah man Kini you have the best boys ever. They are so cute. You have such a great family.

Time flies hey. It wasnt long that you were getting Chace’s shoes. Lets enjoy every moment with these kids because time flies. We dont wanna lose the precious moments.

    Keep well and love you!!!

  7. aww these pictures warm my heart! he looks pretty happy about his shoes. didn’t you say chase seemed a little apprehensive and uncomfortable? and even though bryce got bigger he still looks soo tiny in your lap! almost too tiny to be wearing shoes lol. i can’t wait to see the boys again…
